Swadhyaya (Self Study)

Swadhyaya is the deep introspection into the nature of Reality. It is the intense inner inspection of our selves. Essentially, we are NOT a physical being. Essentially, we are NOT a sensual being. Essentially, we are NOT a mental being, an emotional being, nor even an intellectual being. Essentially, we are NOT even the self-conscious self (ego-person). In essence, we are Pure Consciousness. This ‘knowing’ is experienced in the mind when the mind has been purified with divine wisdom.

The search for Truth is the search for the Real Self. The study of Truth is the study of the Self. When the Truth is realized, the self is real and the non-self disappears. The realization of Truth is an inner journey of the living self (Jivatman) through the coverings of the body, mind, and intellect. When the living self, in search of Truth, penetrates through the veil of Maya (illusion) woven of ego and ignorance, the living self perceives its Real Nature and is enlightened.

Self-study is a constant and consistent practice of the living self on the Path of Enlightenment. In conjunction with self-discipline and humility (self-surrender), the living self climbs to the greatest heights of Yoga and realizes its Essence.
